COMBAT THE
pATENT PRICES
Pharmaceutical Companies have been allowed to oppress patients for decades through drug price inflation, patent abuse, evergreening, and restricting access to generic medicine.
Combat The Patent Prices aims to impact policy by standing up to these cruel tactics and working with advocates and politicians to establish federal caps on prescription drug prices, restrict unethical pharmaceutical monopolization, stop the misuse of patents, and emphasize the role that politicians play in the pharmaceutical industry.
Combat the patent prices is not just a nonprofit
Combat The Patent Prices is the only coalition of high school & university students fighting for affordable prescription drug prices and the end of pharmaceutical patent abuse. With a dedicated team of students, we strive to increase education in the fields of health policy and equity. We, as a student-led organization have successfully fostered debates and conversation with advocates and political candidates regarding Federal caps on drug prices, Medicare negotiations, & policy pushes. Combat The Patent Prices isn't just another student organization, it is a student revolution in both health equity education and activism.

WHAT IS PHARMACEUTICAL
PATENT ABUSE?
The PURPOSE OF THE U.S. patent systeM IS MAINLY to protect the intellectual property of innovators. BUT GOING AGAINST THIS SINCERE APPROACH, some BRANDED PHARMACEUTICAL companies attempt to patent features of drugs that do not represent REAL innovation.
BIG PHARMA CONSTANTLY USES THIS PATENT ABUSE to bury competition from generic and biosimilar drugs indefinitely by finding ways to EXTEND CURRENT inventions in later patents. THESE “patent thickets” PREVENT competition by discouraging competitors from entering a market because of the exorbitant cost of litigating meritless patents.
WHAT CAN WE DO TO STOP PATENT ABUSE AND LOWER
PRESCRIPTION DRUG PRICES?
-
PUSH FOR THE U.S. PATENT & TRADEMARK OFFICE to remove unethical patents on necessary prescription drugs
-
support house bills such as h.r.3 allowing for Medicare to negotiate drug prices
-
CAMPAIGN FOR PHARMACEUTICAL TRANSPARENCY IN DRUG PRICE SETTINGS
-
ADVOCATE AGAINST PRIVATIZATION OF TAXPAYER-FUNDED DRUGS
